Scoliosis in Children: Early Detection & Correction

Scoliosis can be very confusing thing for parents. We can all remember being lined up in gym class and told to take off our shirts and we were individually checked for scoliosis by the gym teacher. If you had something you were told to get it checked and well for most people nothing ever came of it. Others if there was a severe issue received an antiquated surgery called Harrington Rods. Thank goodness times have changed. No longer do we leave scoliosis to be diagnosed by your gym teacher. Today Pediatricians, Physical Therapist, and Chiropractors are all on the look out for early detection of scoliosis and spinal abnormalities because we now know that they are correctable. Also much of the pain and suffering that adults and seniors experience related to advanced spinal degeneration is secondary to scoliosis and other spinal abnormalities that are absolutely correctable. The best time to intervene in abnormalities in the spine such as scoliosis is during childhood prior to puberty. While a great deal of correction can still be achieved post puberty, maximum results are achieved when intervention is started as early as possible.

If you have a family history of scoliosis, if you notice that one shoulder is higher than the other or if you child has frequent stomach or back pains it is important that you have their spine checked as quickly as possible. At PATH Chiropractic our Chiropractors do advanced training and education in the field of Pediatric Chiropractic to ensure the children in our community get the best possible care. Ensure your child gets the best out of their body and their health and have them checked for scoliosis and an spinal abnormalities today.
